Magazine advertisement analysis Dizze Rascal
This is an advertisement for Dizze Rascal's album "Tonge n'cheek". It shows the artist and a large use of typographical text. It uses the same image as is on the CD cover (digi-pack), as well as showing the release date of the same. however it doesn't show the record label or the purchasing options.
Overall its use of typography, colour and relation to the musical preference is exactly what you can expect from the artist but not as much as the preference. this is due to the font of the title.
Magazine advertisement analysis Jay-Z
Focusing on the Album advertisement, it shows and assortment of instruments stuck together and painted white like the background. they have also managed to place it directly in the centre of the shot as well as it being just under the Title which is also the name of the artist. They included the name of the album along with it's release date and the name of the distribution company at the bottom of the advertisement. The image used for the advertisement is also the image used for the album cover making the advertisement more effective.
Unfortunately the advertisement doesn't contain the purchasing options, which is always a good thing to include in an advertisement.
Its use of colour and font almost relates to the genre but not as much as it is more calm than his typical music.
Also it has great use of graphic design as it's use of layout, colour and brief typography is clear and well used.

What Ancillary product i'm doing
I have to do a Digipak however the one i have chosen to do is website as it appeals to me rather than the advertisement. I was especially motivated by one particular previous student work as it shows you how far you can go with a website.

Video Feedback
Most people mentioned that the beginning of our video is a lot less engaging than the end of the video. This is because the night shots we took were really eye-catching because we used bright lights and the camera moved around a lot. There was also an issue with our shots, as most of them were long or medium shots, giving less attention to the artist, and more to the setting. Now, we are adding more close-ups and movement to the beginning.
blogging health check 2
I understand that I am behind in my blog and that we as a group need to improve on our representation of our artist. Also we are going to do a lovely post about how synergy.
Flicker Editing
This is our flicker effect in our video. We made sure it was in time with the beat but also it looked good.
Blogging Health Check

We need to refine our synergy idea and make a post about it. We also need our blog to show who our artist is. At the moment, our background is a hat, however this shows synergy not our artist. We are going to change it from the picture of a hat to a picture of our artist, or a logo. We also need an album cover. Vlad, who is featuring in our video, isn't available to shoot the album cover. This means that we can't use Vlad for our synergy task. However, we can use the colour green and the hat that W.C.Eazy wears throughout the video. We have filmed responses to our rough cuts and posted them

Editing Update ( Warren)
Having started again we have applied our cuts and we are now adding additional shots taken during our filming days. We are aiming by tomorrow to finish and hopefully add some special effects. We have completed the first chorus and Verse 1.

Editing sequence (Warren)
This is all the base track videos we have used. We have put which video we will be using Chorus, Verse 1 and so on. This is so we have some sort of structure in our video.

Blogging Health Check 2
I have caught up with my blog posts but I think I can do some additional ones.
My targets were to:
- brand our blog (make it obvious who the artist was)
- do an extra post on synergy
- make sure our rough cut, feedback and response to the feedback was posted
Rough Cut 2 and Feedback
We need to reshoot the second shot as Vlad is facing away from the camera. When we reshoot we'll get the same background, just change Vlad's position. We've added transitions that correspond with the artists hand movements. We wanted to add more movement to our video, we did this using the fig rig and more movement in the artist. We also wanted to add a little bit of humour, making our artist more relatable, for this Warren danced around more in a few shots. In the shot of Warren standing in front of the park, we positioned Warren in front of the big tree, making him and his hat stand out more, as the hat would blend into the sky. We used the razor to cut up our shots in time to the beat, this creates a really nice effect, making the video look work really well with the genre. In the last shot, the camera moves from Warren to Vlad depending on who's verse it is. This shot is very dark and goes in and out of focus. We may need to reshoot this part. We also need to continue adding more shots, so that they change every 4 seconds.
Callum mentioned that Vlad is miming the words rather than singing them, and that it shows. He liked the slide transitions, but said they need to be improved to look more natural. In the beginning of the shot in front of the Italian restaurant, the camera zooms in. This is going to be edited out. The last thing he said was that we need more cuts. Marisa agrees there isn't enough edits. Apart from the shots that cut out the artists feet, we have included many shots that are nicely framed. She also commented on the performance of the artists.
Blogging Health Check
I need to make sure i'm on top of my blogging and make sure that I do what is required of me. We need to make sure we show our artist more so we have a good brand image and that it is clearly what our artist is about. Finish of my extension task to improve my grade.

Rough cut 1 and feedback
For our rough cut, there were a few problems highlighted in the feedback we got from our class. The main one was the length of our shots, as we didn't have enough shots filmed. When we have more filmed, we will have different shots every four seconds, this will engage the audience more. The sound wasn't synced well enough, and some shots need reshooting. We received positive feedback about the use of symmetry in some of our shots. This is something we want to use consistently throughout our video.
Analysing a Student Video
04. Emmanuel, Ariadna, Yuksel, Joshua from 283goswellg on Vimeo.
I've chosen to analyse this student video as the genre is similar to the genre we're doing. The camera shots and editing show features I think would add a lot to our video. I also like the aesthetic of the shots, and their use of symmetry and colour, making certain artists in the video stand out where necessary. The video also follows a clear narrative relating to the song and the lyrics specifically.
In the first shot, there's already an advanced use of editing. As the camera pans behind the tree, the camera shot changes the position of the artist. His outfit matches the amount of grey in the setting, while still making him stand out with the bright clean colours. At the beginning of the shot panning from his feet up, we see his legs, standing apart. This perfectly frames the church in the graveyard, while the trees on each side frame his legs. This shot is clearly well thought out, and improves the video. This is what I want to add to my groups music video, as it looks very professional and aesthetically pleasing. At the end of this shot, the image fades to white as it pans up, to the sky. This relates to the idea of death, the surroundings, and lyrics.
The colour grading makes the video look really clean. Theres a nice contrast making the trees in the background darker, creating a nice contrast with the rest of the shot. There is a close-up of the artist looking distressed or upset, this goes perfectly in time with the lyrics "I saw my mums heart break'. This is consistent throughout the video, making it very easy to follow and making it engaging for the audience.
We are then introduced to the other artists in the video, again, the shot is framed so that the artists are framed by buildings or trees, ect. I also noticed that the video includes a range of jump cuts that change in time to the music, this looks really good and shows the audience more.
As there are three artists, the costume compliments that by having one person wearing a contrasting outfit. This adds to the atheistic of the video, and doesn't distract from the amount of artists. For the next chorus, there is a different artist singing. For his individual shots, there is a shot of him in the middle of two roads, this is a very symmetrical shot. There are also jump cuts as he's singing, and slow motion, giving the video a dramatic effect, as it's quite a dramatic song. Throughout the shot changes the artist is wearing the same white t-shirt, making the shots easier to adjust to, adding synergy.
Overall, the video is consistent in the quality of effects, editing, and mise-en-scene. The genre is very clear.

Colour Grading tutorial (Warren)
A tutorial of the technician teaching our group how to colour grade and slow motions. Special effects we hope to use during our editing of our music video.
Additional Task- Examining website ( need to annotate)
Tinie Tempah firstly has his new album promoted on his Website and ways to buy it. It is the first thing to appear as soon as soon as you go onto the website.Once again in previous albums we can see the use of sunglasses like his previous albums and songs. Which has become his trademark in songs in which we instantly associate Tinie Tempah with.
He then promotes hes new single to give a preview for his audience by putting up a Youtube video. In which gives his audience a taste of his new music so they want more so they end up buying it. Below the Youtube Video he has number of social medias in which you are able to follow him such as Facebook, twitter,Instagram spotify and others in which his fans can keep up to date with what he is doing. This really helps to promote Tinie Tempah as his audience being of younger ages could easily find new content and be up to date with him, due to it being the web age.
Updated Social Media( warren)
We have updated our social media by regularly tweeting when we film. We have also uploaded a picture of our two artist to really promote them and their song. Make it seem more authentic.
Digipak Additional task
Tine Tempah Album CoverThere is signature synergy going through the album cover and the songs cover of Space/Nightsky. It also keeps the same font for the writing. Also the theme of space fits really well with the Title name Discovery because space is so vast and there is so much to discover and surprises in space just like Tinie Tempah songs. He has glasses in Till i'm gone cover however on the hand in the full album he has Sunglasses, despite he keeps the theme of using shades. Tinie Tempah album cover has him holding a bunch of skyscrapers which is foreshadowing some of the locations he using in his songs which is an Effective use as his audience will start wonder where they first saw it.
Reflection on Progress
Not much progress has been made as I am lacking blogs and not blogging in time. I'm yet to order my blogging making it easier for my teacher and I. However I have managed to improve my IT skills which makes me feel more confident in media. I haven't been conscious with time which means my Blogs have build up which means when I do it the quality will be worse.
Next time I will hope to have actually ordered my blog and finish my blog task to a good quality.

Post Production
For our music video, we're going to use colour grading in final cut pro to make the final product look more professional. We may add some slow motion to create a more dramatic effect in certain parts of our video.

Evidence of Filming (Ebrar & Warren)
Over the half term, we went out to film some shots at Barbican and night shots at Primrose Hill. Whilst filming we didn't have any technical problems or problems with the costumes, as we were well prepared. However, we did have some disturbance from the public, which we managed to resolve by telling them that we were filming.
Updated Production schedule (Warren)
Due to it raining we were unable to film on Friday 4th November, so therefore we are filming again on Tuesday 8th November, as you can see on our Timetoast.
Test shots
We took some good shots over the half term. However, the framing in some shots are not symmetrical, therefore we need to re-take them. We are planning on having a continuous motif throughout the shots of having some kind of object or background between the artists. This will be very effective, as it shows that we have thought about the framing of our shots thoroughly. Also, we need to make sure we have a wider variety of shots, especially more extreme close ups of the artists face looking directly into the camera, which will show that he is engaging with the target audience.

Revisions to pitch and final decisions (Ebrar)
From the feedback we got from our class after presenting our pitch, we decided to change our synergy product of sunglasses to a nike cap. This is because we realised that this was too similar to Tinie Tempah's brand image and we wanted ours to be different, but still have some influence from the artist and Hip Hop genre. Therefore, we thought this was the most suitable idea.
As we changed our synergy product, we had to change the design of our blog to fit in with our brand image, as in the feedback we got from our class they were a bit confused as to why we didn't have the synergy product as the background image.

Pitch Task 17-Social Media (Warren)
Friday, 14 October 2016
pitch task 6 -Settings and Location (Warren)
Firstly we chose Barbican for practical reasons - we knew we wanted an estate for our genre and the Barbican is relatively near college. However, we also chose it for its aesthetic value - the 1960's Swedish architecture looks very good on camera as proven by our pictures and the garden theme in the estate gives it a more positive feel than other inner city estates.
Primrose Hill was chosen, unlike the others, mostly due to its appearance and not much else. Although Alexandra Palace provides a great view of London, Primrose Hill would give us a background of more iconic places, appealing to our audience again. It also looks beautiful at night time, which is when we want to film. Interestingly, the use of the hill gives the impression our artists are on top of the world, a theme common in pop music and hip hop also.
Most importantly, the contrast of the 'hip' Southbank and the austere government setting over the water gives us a great setting for our song as the contrast emphasises the youth in our video, appealing to our target audience again.contrast emphasises the youth in our video in the sense that the government is usually associated with men above the ages of 25-39, appealing to our target audience again".

Audience 2

According to YouGov, fans of our genre are female aged 25-39. I disagree with this statement to an extent, because I feel that due to the music videos and overall representation, the genre is aimed and men more than women, this is because the men are shown as rich and successful while the women are shown dismembered and not playing an actual role in the video, supporting Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory. However, after doing research into the fanbase of our genre, there are a large majority of females.
Interview with staff member at HMV:
What would you expect to see in a music video of the genre [hip hop]?
Normally, you just see the artists surrounded by girls having fun and drinking. You also see a lot of fancy cars and clothing. This is the stuff that makes rappers seem cool.
What else would you say on the genre?
I'd say it's very much based on status, what you own, and where you live. The more expensive, the better.
Definition of 'hip hop':
Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed tohip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s and made popular by dance crews in the United States.

Mainstream vs Independent
Merchandise is very important to an artists success as it takes them from being an artist to a brand.
When researching One Direction I found many sources that could help me. I even struggled to find their official website as they have many fan made websites. You can buy real merchandise from their website and fake merchandise from just about anywhere else.
When researching Lanterns on the Lake, I found it quite hard to find their website or any fan made websites. This immediately told me that the band are considerably less successful than One Direction. They have limited merchandise, which I could only find available on their official website. I also found that their music is only available on their website.
I'd prefer to be signed to a mainstream record label despite the fact that there are higher risks of being sold fake merchandise, your authenticity as an artist will most likely be questioned, and you have less freedom of choice as an artist, in the end, your name will be put out there, giving you countless of opportunities to create a strong brand identity.

Audience research (Warren)
On Tinie Tempah facebook page, upon going on one post I managed to find a number of women who fit the typical target audience female ages 25-39 according to YouGov.

This an audience who fits Tinie tempah typical audience according to YouGov. She is a mother who seems to live in the south of England. She is a white women who clearly likes her British music but also her American music like Justin Timberlake.
Synergy
There are three main synergy in random access memories are the font, black background and the helmets which appear in a number of their videos.
In the their song lose yourself to dance right at the beginning 0:07 there was already a use of synergy with the the font just like the album and also the black background which is also another use of synergy in the video.
In the final of the song there was another use of synergy by the use of the helmets which also appears on the album and other songs like get lucky.
